HealthETalks w/ Katheryn Nieuwstadt
In this episode of HealthETalks, we take you through Kathryn’s journey into the world of physiotherapy. It all began with a love for biology back in high school, but the real turning point was a knee injury she sustained during a hockey game. That experience opened her eyes to the wonders of the human body and the incredible field of physiotherapy. From understanding complex medical terms to realizing the importance of effective communication with patients, her path has been both challenging and rewarding. Kathryn had the privilege of doing her community service at a large regional hospital, where she gained hands-on experience in various departments, from orthopedics to pediatrics and even ICU. One of the most memorable experiences was working with a patient severely weakened by COVID-19. Through perseverance and teamwork, she helped him regain his strength and mobility, which was an incredibly fulfilling journey. In this episode, Kathryn also shares the common challenges she faces, especially when patients struggle to follow through with their rehabilitation plans. We’ll talk about the importance of treating patients holistically and the psychological aspects of physical recovery.
